Conditions of Participation in an Only the Human Course
In Plain English
When you enrol to take a course with us, you acknowledge that:
You are over eighteen years of age.
You’re being asked to be playful, support growth for yourself and your classmates, and respect boundaries. We consider these our core behaviours for students. If you cannot demonstrate these core behaviours, you may be asked to leave the course. More detail on what this means is below.
You agree to our Anti-Discrimination and Harassment Policy and acknowledge you can lodge a complaint if you feel it has been violated.
We’re unable to provide refunds if you change your mind, once the course has begun.
You’ll receive occasional emails from us, and you can unsubscribe from those that aren’t related to your course.
You’ll only contact your teacher(s) by phone or text and only for attendance-related matters.
Your teacher(s) will participate outside of the course at their discretion.
Graduation from the course is always at the discretion of the course teacher(s). Graduation depends on attending no fewer than six (6) classes, demonstrating our core behaviours, and showing progress against the course outcomes. Graduation is always at the discretion of the course teacher(s). Graduation is not a requirement for participation in the end-of-term Student Showcase.
The Fine Print

Our core behaviours govern everything we do at Only the Human. For students, the most important ones to keep in mind are to be playful, support growth, and ensure safety.
🎭 Be Playful: Be willing to be vulnerable, take risks, and have a go. Relax your need to look good and feel in control.
🌱 Support Growth: We learn from each other as much as we do from the teacher, so an effort to support the growth of other students is expected. This means we need to hold space for ourselves and each other so we feel safe enough to take a chance.
🦺 Respect Boundaries: Ensure you’re looking out for your fellow players and consider their physical and psychosocial safety in your conduct. We also ask you communicate your own boundaries clearly so we know your needs. We'll introduce some strategies in class to name and protect our boundaries.
As improvisation is a collaborative art, our courses assume a level of self-awareness and self-management. This means our classes may not be appropriate for people with an acute mental health condition, trauma, or complex needs. Improvisation is therapeutic, but it is not therapy. We cannot coach individual students through personal challenges and our teachers are not healthcare professionals.
We also have an Anti-Discrimination and Harassment Policy which you agree to by taking this class. If you believe you’ve been a victim of discrimination or harassment, you can lodge an anonymous complaint.
If you have any doubt about your ability to demonstrate these behaviours, email don@othcomedy.com or discuss improvisation with your healthcare professional.

We’re unable to refund class registration fees most of the time but will consider refunds on a case-by-case basis. Where we can’t organise a refund, we’ll consider a transfer to another course. If you’d like a refund or a transfer to another course, email our Executive Officer don@onlythehuman.com.
Occasionally, if you’ve booked a course and we feel you aren’t an appropriate fit, we reserve the right to cancel your enrolment. If we do this, you’ll always receive a full refund and an explanation. Usually this happens if we feel a student has enrolled in an advanced course without adequate training.
If you’re on a payment plan, we’ll email you our Bank Details in Week 5.

Our office staff will use email as our primary method of communication with you outside of class hours. You agree to receive a reasonable number of emails from us during the class term, at the email address you provide when signing up. In rare/urgent cases we may contact you via phone or text message. We suggest adding don@onlythehuman.com to your contact list so these emails don’t go to spam.
By registering for workshops, you also opt-in for the Only the Human mailing list, which you can always unsubscribe from later. If you’ve unsubscribed in the past, we won’t resubscribe you. Student emails are separate from the mailing list, so if you unsubscribe you’ll still receive student emails.

Teachers should only be contacted via text message, or phone call if its urgent, and only for matters related to attendance at class. Please do let the teacher know if you won’t be able to make class.
Teachers may choose to participate in discussions on Discord or offer contact outside of class hours, but this is entirely at their discretion. Some of our teachers have families and are busy – others love to have a chat after class. If you want feedback from your teacher, it’s best to ask during the class break.
Our Discord (you’ll get an invite early in the term) is a great place for general chatter with your classmates and the broader community. All other concerns should be directed to our Executive Officer don@onlythehuman.com.

Our classes are designed to provide a scaffolded, developmental experience of improvisation, and so regular attendance and a commitment to learning are required to get the most out of each course.
Graduation from the course requires attending at least six out of the eight classes, demonstrating most of the course outcomes to a reasonable standard, and demonstrating our core behaviours (be playful, support growth, and ensure safety). Students will graduate from a class at the teacher’s recommendation.
To participate in the student showcase, you need to have attended at least six of eight classes. However, you do not need to graduate to perform in the showcase.
For introductory students, graduation is required to advance to intermediate and advanced classes. Intermediate is required before joining advanced. You may be invited to repeat a course if you do not graduate.
If you do not graduate, you will be provided with a brief email explaining why.
