Pattern & Game
Find the game, find the funny.
You’re onstage with your scene partner. You’ve started a scene. You found a funny thing. Now what? In Pattern & Game, we’ll see how characters, emotions, and repetition can create unique and interesting dynamics - and how we can explore and heighten those dynamics to create compelling, funny scenes. The core concept here is the Upright Citizens Brigade’s notion of a game - a repeated pattern of unusual (but grounded) behaviour within a scene. Pattern & Game also bridges intermediate-level formats like The Montage to advanced formats like The Harold. The term will culminate in a format that combines elements of both.
Our advanced courses are designed for students with a solid grasp of the fundamentals — completion of both Rediscover Play and Make a Scene (or equivalent) is strongly recommended. Our advanced courses can generally be taken in any order; we encourage students to learn with different teachers to find which styles and techniques work best for them.
When: Begins Tuesday the 20h of October until the 8th of December (eight weeks), followed by a performance Jam session in the subsequent week.
Time: 6:00 - 8:00pm (two hours)
Where: Birak - First Summer Loftus Recreation Centre (99 Loftus St, Leederville)
Teacher: TBC
