Members Rights & Responsibilities

As a member of the Perth Improvised Theatre Society (PITS) cooperative, you have both rights and responsibilities that are essential to our collective success.

You have the right to:

  • Participation: To enjoy a welcoming, fun, and safe improv community; a community where members lead and attend events & shows, cheer one another on, learn, practice, perform, form jamming groups, and laugh together.

  • Communication: Access exclusive channels like ‘pits-loomio’ on Discord, regular email updates on 'what's happening', and the Members’ Calendar of upcoming courses and events.

  • A Voice: Have your voice heard at the Annual General Meeting, vote on changes, and participate in important decisions in strategic discussions and community feedback polls on Loomio.

You have a responsibility to:

  • Engage: Actively participate in events, volunteer for fundraising drives, create or be part of a team, attend shows (both as an audience member and performer), hone your craft, and start or contribute to a thing. You’re not required to do everything, we just want you to be involved with the community that works to give you great opportunities to learn and perform improv theatre.

  • Respect: Maintain a respectful and collaborative attitude in all interactions with other members, with the public in general, and when representing the cooperative.

  • Represent: Attend the Annual General Meeting and other governance events, contributing to the community’s growth and success.

The cooperative is only as succesful as the efforts of its members. A stronger, more active community provides more and better services to its members.

Member Platforms

  1. Loomio - A place for discussions and decision-making about the co-operative. Check your email for a login invite (Note: Loomio is only available to board endorsed members).

  2. Discord Server - Currently organised and run by PITS. The server is open to any improviser in WA, not just PITS members (but it is mostly members of the cooperative).

Key Documents

  1. The Model Rules - Our constitutional document, which provides more information on the rights & responsibilities you have above.

  2. Member Pack - A brief, easy-to-read summary of The Model Rules.

  3. Only The Wiki - While the Wiki will link back to this page in a few cases, it is an excellent summary of how you can be involved with PITS and OTH. If you’d like anything added to the OTW, email don@onlythehuman.com with your requests.

  4. Organisation Chart and Job Descriptions - A list of the roles currently in the organisation and opportunities to volunteer (may not always be up-to-date).

  5. Comedy Underground Finances Policy - Primarily of interest to Comedy Underground performers. This is how we make sure the show is sustainable and figure out IOUs.

Forming a Team

Want to form a team under PITS? Here are some tips to support you - this is what we think makes a team work. For more information, check out our Self-Organising Systems explainer, or Only The Wiki.

PITS Management Committee

The PITS Management committee is a newly-formed group under the recently adopted twin-goverance model. Their role is primarily about member induction, empowerment, and retention, along with event organisation and fundraising facilitation. If you would like to assist with these important aspects, in any capacity, please email don@onlythehuman.com for more information.
